Last week was a busy week. I studied a lot of books and did a lot of interviews. Now I'm still reading 'social media at work'. It's an interesting book. I already did a part of the literature study for the assignment this week. I think that I will finish the literature study next week.
The interviews went well and were interesting. The employees of Philips are very open and helpful. They gave me new ideas and their views on social media. They also indicated that they need a training to understand social media. So the interviews helped me to understand their needs.
My coach (Cameron) is going to America for a month. I will keep in touch with him through Skype. He gives me a lot of responsibility and that feels good.
I will give a training (starts Feb 23d) to the communicators every Tuesday. In this training I will take the communicators through the new social media tool (beta version of it) and show them the features of it. First in the morning (07.00 am) for the Asian part of Philips and later that day (04.00 pm) for the European part and the America part. I will use livemeeting and a conference call. The environment is really international. I'm happy that they give me the opportunity to do this. I think not a lot of companies would gave an intern an opportunity like this. This is a whole new experience for me.
Another role that Cameron gave me is the role of a supporter. I will support the new online community on the new social media tool. People can ask me questions about the tool and about social media. I will also welcome the new members and explain them how they can use this new social media tool.
Last week was an exciting week because the board of management had to decide about the internal use of social media. Their decision was positive for us. So this is very exciting for the internal communication department. The BoM is enthusiastic. They couldn't wait to start. This is a proof that the use of social media internally is taken seriously.
